Travis Alabanza
Fresh Ink: Hull Playwriting Festival 2024

Fun with Form

Travis Alabanza

Travis Alabanza has made a play that was a cooking show, a monologue in a bathroom, and a drag cabaret that one reviewer called a play and the other reviewer called a circus. They don’t take form lightly, but they also do.

This workshop aims to encourage playwrights to think beyond what is a “play” and what isn’t, using writing exercises and conversation to be imaginative about how our words can appear. From text messages to TikToks, to apology letters to plays, playwriting doesn’t have to be a script.
