Middle Child Book Club

Supported by Nick Hern Books

Through our Theatre Library we often hear people say they want to read more plays but don’t know where to start. Well, fear not, the Middle Child Book Club is here for all of your play-reading needs.

Each month we’ll suggest a brilliant play to read, which you can borrow a copy of from our library. Then we all get together to talk about what we liked, or didn’t like, about the play, remembering there are no wrong answers and it’s not a test.

Alternatively, you can join us on the morning of the discussion for an optional ‘read aloud’, where attendees take a part and read it aloud, alongside a breakfast of pastries, porridge and fruit.

Upcoming dates
  • Friday 7 February: Dugsi Dayz by Sabrina Ali
  • Friday 7 March: A Play for the Living in a Time of Extinction by Miranda Rose Hall
  • Friday 4 April: Giant by Mark Rosenblatt

Dugsi Dayz by Sabrina Ali

Discussion: 11.00am-12.15pm

Detention on a Saturday? These four girls are keeping tight-lipped on why they’re there. When a power outage plunges them into darkness, the girls use subverted folktales to break the ice. As they delve into their stories, they discover parallels that may just lead to friendship.

A comedic exploration of Somali Muslim culture and female friendship, inspired by the 1985 movie The Breakfast Club.

Book Club is free to attend, we just ask that you RSVP so we know how many people to expect.
