Plot summary

We want to ensure that audience members can make an informed decision about whether our work is suitable for themselves. The summary below includes spoilers but may be useful to those who prefer to know what happens in the show. Please note that this plot summary is for the family show and whilst the script is the same for the late show, there will be more ad libs from the actors and a few more risque jokes sprinkled in.

In a short prologue, villain Long John Silver introduces himself and sends his faithful parrot, Blabberbeak, on an errand with a piece of paper, that hints he is looking for Treasure Island.

Pattie Breadcake then enters the stage at the Sunken Poopdeck tavern, singing a medley of songs about partying and pubs, before introducing her son, Jim Hawkins-Breadcake. He longs to be a pirate, but isn’t quite brave enough. Except for when Pattie says a keyword and he snaps into gnarly pirate mode.

Pattie then explains that before the plot can progress, she needs to find a sponsor and asks the audience for a business card, at which point feared pirate Bill Bones storms into the tavern.

Bill is about to issue a warning, when the parrot, Blabberbeak, flies in and delivers him the Black Spot. Bill dies on the spot and Pattie and Jim find a treasure map in Bill’s belongings. They leave in search of a ship and a crew.

Long John Silver arrives at the empty tavern and casts a spell, which turns Blabberbeak into a human by the name of Thievin’ Arry.

Captain Corsair is sat at Hull marina, singing a song and introducing himself as a wannabe sailor with a fear of water, when Jim and Pattie arrive and sign him up to their crew. Thievin’ Arry then turns up and joins their crew too. The ghost of Bill Bones tries to warn our heroes away from Arry, but nobody pays attention.

Thievin’ Arry introduces them to Long John Silver, in disguise as a cook and they all set sail. When the island comes into view, Arry and Silver mutiny and seize the ship and map, making Pattie and Jim walk the plank.

The second act starts with Pattie and Jim swimming to shore at night, where Pattie becomes aware of ghost. She encourages the children in the audience to sing a song to distract her from ghosts, which keep making an appearance and the audience can scream at.

Enter Chad Kickflip, a skater boy who has been stranded on the island since the 90s. He shows them a clue he has found and together, the three go on a rip-roaring tour of the island, going from clue to clue in search of the treasure.

Meanwhile, Silver and Arry have landed on the island, dragging a tied-up Corsair with them, as they search for the treasure. They reach the Bay of the Damned first, where X marks the spot, but just in time Jim, Pattie and Chad Kickflip arrive to spoil proceedings.

Jim and Silver have a sword fight, which Jim wins. Thievin’ Arry then challenges Jim to a fight, but Jim refuses and, instead, shows him compassion, convincing him to drop his sword.

Everybody makes friends and they return to Hull, sharing the treasure.
